Nobody at school understands me. And I feel stupid trying to explain it to people who don't understand. Why would I like a show aimed at five-year-olds?

Most of you reading this probably understand somewhat. But I still feel foolish, because Pokemon is considered, by everyone I know in real life, to be kiddie crap.

I don't think it is. I mean, sure, the Pokeraps are kind of try-hard, and the 'Who's that Pokemon' aren't exactly a stimulating mental challenge. The cute Pokemon appeal to younger children and there's nothing really directed at an older audience.

Still, there's something about it that most people don't see. Of course, I started liking it because I like most Japanese animation. But there was more to it than that. Most anime I find offensive while still enjoying it. Pokemon, it doesn't bother me. There's not much there that bothers me. It's simple, it's childish, it's fun.

I watch it primarily for entertainment value. It makes me laugh a lot. Admittedly, most things make me laugh a lot, but... I dunno. The mixture of typical anime humour, of sarcasm, little biting or snide comments, puns so bad that they're funny... it makes Pokemon appeal to an older audience, I guess.

I'm only 16, but people still seem to think I shouldn't like anything that they haven't decided is cool. What, am I supposed to watch the shows they watch? Forgive me for not loving Dawson's Creek, Seinfeld or The Bold and the Beautiful!

I'm not going to make a fool of myself by talking about how Pokemon's inspiring and deep and has a message for us all. It's not like that. The messages are simply portrayed as morals, typical child stuff. The show teaches good things like friendship and it's fairly harmless stuff.

I also like the concept of it. It's original. There's just something cool about the idea of a world with animal things with funky powers that you can have for your own if you're worthy.

Pokemon is good for a laugh and lighthearted entertainment. The art's cute and the characters likeable. Also, having some understanding of the Pokemon game helps when watching it, because you can follow things a little better.

So I don't really care what others think of it. They condescend me, but my opinions are my own. I am a fan of Pokemon. ^_^.
